I am sure that the regular reader of Joy’s blogs has noticed that music is often the central theme of our writings. This glorious gift is truly awesome. It moves us closer to our loving God in mysterious and wondrous ways.
I tentatively and humbly call myself a musician. I love singing and I am learning to play the piano. I have been a member of a local symphony chorus for several years. It has been a privilege to learn beautiful compositions written in praise of God. I have a distinct, joyous reaction to singing these songs of adoration. For me, it is a physical shot of euphoria.
Recently, we performed a concert of scared music which several listeners described to me as a long prayer of love. One woman told me that she just closed her eyes and felt the comfort of the music flow over her.
What is it about music that touches our souls in such a way as to bring light into darkness, soothe our fears, and bring quiet to a racing mind? Since our concert, the world in which we live has been turned upside down. This week, there are no concerts being held, no big weddings being performed, no church services being held.
We are in scary times right now. There is a microscopic bug reeking mayhem throughout our world. It is bringing death, fear and economic calamity to our daily lives. However, the miracle of music is still with us. This wonderful gift of a loving God can still our fears, calm our anxieties and bring us to a different perspective in a world that doesn’t make a lot of sense right now.
Remember that God loves you unconditionally. Hold His hand, listen to His music and rest in peace. (https://youtu.be/lmCBWGDXLf0 Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna)
