With this blog we welcome a new writer to our team . . .
Fog always made me melancholy, even from my earliest memories. As a small child I knew I felt sad when it was foggy but of course I didn’t understand why. I couldn’t see around, over, under or through the fog. What I couldn’t see created all sorts of anxieties.
On the plains of South Dakota where I was raised, fog could appear in any season of the year and spawn some type of chaos. Winter was the worst time however because in addition to the inability to of seeing ahead, it always produced ice, spelling danger for walkers and drivers no matter where you ventured. It was distressing as you could not see what was on the other side and it was a treacherous journey to get there.
As can be the case with most bad things, one can usually find at least one positive. Such is the case with fog, but only in the winter when the combination of the fog and freezing temperatures adorn the trees, houses, and windows with the most stunning, picture perfect views. We awaken to a world sunny and bright with its blinding beauty. Maybe this is how heaven looks!
The same can be said about our faith in the Lord. We can’t see the Lord in person, but we know he is there. We don’t know what he has in store for our futures but we know he will guide us if we listen to him. We can’t see around, over, under or through to our futures but we can see Him all around us if we look, listen and learn from His words and remember He loves us unconditionally as found in 1 Corinthians 13:12.
We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God see us, knowing him directly just as he knows us.
Such is God’s promise of eternal life and as the perfect beauty of the winter frost after a foggy night, the sun will shine brightly on us as we return to the Lord.
