For lots of people, the Big 4-0 means reaching their fortieth birthday, but for others it is finally knocking off forty pounds, forty laps around the gym, forty new members in their club or organization, but the number forty seems to resonant many times in God’s Word also.

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, the number “40” seems to have significance., being mention over 100 times.  A few examples would be:  God destroyed the Earth by flooding it 40 days; three Kings, Saul, David and Solomon reigned 40 years; Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years; and Moses, Elijah and Jesus fasted 40 days in the desert.

If you quieted yourself, could you close your eyes and thinking over your life select at least 40 blessings from God? Each breath you take is a blessing.  The beating of your heart, the blinking of your eyes, the muscles contracting and retracting to allow you mobility are all blessings that are innumerable. We are blessed by His unconditional love for us.  Before you catch your 40 winks, why not give thanks for your 40 blessings (and more) each day. The Big 4-0 is powerful!
