Memorial Day or Everlasting Comfort

Pentecost represents a time after Jesus had returned from the dead, been acknowledged by His disciples and ascended into heaven. The Resurrection must have been powerful to behold.  What followed must have been like Memorial Day.  Lots of shared stories about Jesus, their friend, their leader, their Messiah, their Savior. Mourning was probably not fleeting, I’m feel certain it came in waves, as it does for many of us who mourn losses….and then Acts reminds us that as the disciples were gathered together the sound, as if the wind were roaring, filled the room where the disciples were gathered.  A flame appeared above each of their heads. The Holy Spirit filled them.  Jesus had told them a comforter would be coming to be with them always.

We are so blessed to have His comfort to still our fears and calm our anxiousness. While meditating and practicing deep breathing, I sometimes envision a wispy, smoke-like flutter entering my toes and like a cirrus cloud just wafting gently on a breeze, it begins (in my mindful vision) to drift slowly through my entire body.  It stops when it encircles my heart and fills me with peace and God’s comfort.

Reflect on “His Memorial Day”, as the disciples surely did and then be filled with His everlasting comfort as the joy of Pentecost blesses you.  God loves you unconditionally, enough to send you His comfort and grace. Be Spirit filled!
