Times have been tense lately and I’m afraid I haven’t remembered to celebrate the little joys that God sends my way. I read a devotion focused on this idea today and it was one of those “hit the nail on the head” moments. Our days don’t need to be filled with 24 hours of pure bliss. Let’s face it, we all know that doesn’t happen. But, if we keep our eyes open for little blessings, I think we’ll see them.
This afternoon, as I write this, we had a beautiful rain. Not stormy and wild, just a nice steady rain that watered the earth. I sat quietly on the lanai to watch and to listen. The rainfall gave me a sense of peace and relaxation. For that half hour I felt like I was on vacation enjoying the beauty of nature. I’m so glad I didn’t miss it. To me, it seemed that God was sending a respite from everyday concerns. I don’t know about you, but I need to stay more “tuned in” to the little blessings that come my way each day.
Do we “deserve” the blessings God sends? Of course not. His Kingdom is not about what we earn, it’s about His blessings that flow freely from His unconditional love for us. When we receive His blessings with a grateful heart, God rejoices. His pleasure in giving and our pleasure in receiving flow together in joyous harmony.

See God in every happy face.
Hear God in every caring word.
Receive God’s blessings every day of your life.”*
