Consider . . . The Daily Parables

There are minor miracles going on constantly that we are seldom aware of. Breathing. Heart beating. Blinking. Cells re-generating at microscopic, mathematically inconceivable rates. CO2 making our existence possible at all. Infinitesimal feelings, instincts and thoughts always being processed by our brain.

Consider…This is what our Lord Jesus invites us to when he tells stories, i.e. parables. Lilies of the field. Yeast. The sower. Another copper Lincoln in the jar. A seed. There is a lot of stuff going on all the time that we take for granted because we’re in such a stinking hurry. Even if we’re not scurrying, we are certainly focused on other stuff. When we are mindfully paying attention to what our Savior deems to be essential, everything becomes more meaningful and substantial. Our Bible is truly the perfect book. Our Lord’s stories are truly the wisest. It is hard in our times, particularly with younger people, to understand and appreciate these wonders. If we were all more loving, attentive, and mindful,…ahhh. Just imagine the blissful peace we would experience. I suppose the devil can be implicated for the roadblocks and landmines he sets up. The salaciousness, the poIar opposites that he entices us with. Tune it out; turn it off. We are acutely aware that if we dare to keep track of what we invest our time and treasure in, we will just about darn near hate ourselves. That’s another yarn Satan likes to spin: “you’re unworthy! You’re so pathetically insignificant! Why would God waste his time and effort on you?”

Consider…how much care God puts into the likes of us. We are so average and also so exceptional. The saying is true: “God loves each of us as if we were the only one to love.” Yes, we are the minor miracles. We keep believing, getting back up, showing up, paying it back and forward. I pray that each of you will always carry that wondering appreciation of the daily parables, the daily stories that intertwine with God’s.

Consider…the unconditional love.  Our screw-ups, the hurts we inflict on each other, once repented of with a sorrowful heart, are washed away with the tears we shed, with the heartbeat and pulse rate that got going at break-neck speed and now settle to a peaceful tempo. Our souls are restored, in right standing again with the only One capable of doing so. May your daily stories include the minor miracles.
