Give Thanks Unto the Lord

As I have mentioned before and like a lot of you, I live in a retirement community.  Like most of you, we have not seen our neighbors for a few months due to Covid- 19 and people self-quarantining.

This week, I finally had the pleasure of visiting with some fellow residents at the pool while working out.  While we exercised, another couple joined us and the two couples began discussing the health concerns of two people they knew, both of whom had fallen in the last week and had sustained injuries. I did not know the folks being discussed but it was heartening for me to observe the concern and love they shared for their friends and how they wanted to support them.  Both injured individuals were being cared for by friends and neighbors as they were widowers and had no family living close by.  These two couples discussed how they could help with their care and who they should contact to get started.

After they had decided how they could be part of the support system for their friends, one of the gentlemen said, “People are always telling me how well I am doing for someone who is 85 years old.  I always tell them I am blessed to be as healthy as I am, but I just take one day at a time. I could easily be in the same situation (as the afore mentioned people) tomorrow and I am thankful for everyday of goodness the Lord sees fit to give me.”

I am 20 years younger than the gentlemen, but I could do well to remember that in my everyday life too.  I have been blessed in so many wonderful ways with a loving and supportive family, wonderful friends, good health, a successful career, an enjoyable retirement and most of all with a God who loves me unconditionally in spite of how I behave sometimes.

Remember the words from Psalms 107:8  – Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for his goodness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men! Revel in the goodness you do have in your life and give thanks to whom it comes from.
