The unprecedented challenges our nation is currently facing have touched the lives of each and every American. These difficult times and continued isolation highlight our ever-present need to connect with one another
I’m thinking today of a song by Ruth Moody, titled “One Voice.” The verses begin with a single voice, then two, then three. The most powerful is the final stanza where everyone sings together, with one voice.
“This is the sound of one voice
One people, one voice
A song for every one of us
This is the sound of one voice
This is the sound of one voice“
In these days of dissension we pray for a time when we can sing (and speak) with one voice. In the words of the Psalmist, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1
How is that possible? Only if we truly listen to those with whom we disagree, to try to understand the life’s experiences that have led to their decisions. Only if we look deeply into our own well-intentioned selves, to uncover feelings that have been ingrained in our being, feelings that lead us to judge others. Not easy to be sure. We ask our Lord who came to love all, to lead us on our journey of love and acceptance.
I hope you enjoy the YouTube of “One Voice,” performed by the USAF band and chorus.
