Today I celebrated my “Medicare” birthday as my recently Medicared friends have dubbed it. I looked forward to this birthday as much as other milestone birthdays like turning 16 or 18 or 21, but for a different reason. The big reward of this birthday was no longer having to pay for my own medical insurance. As we all know, that is a large expenditure that takes a chunk out of the budget and what a relief it was to be free of it.
I have felt a sense of relief many other times in my life. Some was relief for accomplishing rewarding things in my life like graduating from college with my bachelors, my masters and my doctorate degrees. I felt a sense of relief when I was able to retire after completing a successful forty-year career in the field of education. Probably my biggest sense of relief was when my husband not only survived a massive stroke five years ago, but worked extremely hard and was able to gradually regain many of the skills he had before which all initially seemed impossible.
Of course, all of these things, including turning 65 were made possible by the help and hand of God. With man that is impossible, but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26) This verse resonates through everything in my life and yours too. Jesus reminded us of this time and time again in the Scriptures as God’s people performed unfathomable tasks.
While I do feel a strong sense of relief, when I actually evaluate the above situations, even more I feel a profound sense of thankfulness and joy in what life has presented to me and how God has helped me through with his unconditional love to guide me along the way. We never know what our futures hold and what good or not so good things will be placed in our life’s path, but if we trust in the Lord and ask for his assistance we can overcome the obstacles and live a blessed and purposeful life. Again, with God all things are possible!!
