Funny how, as a youngster, I could watch this particular pair of cartoon characters (Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote by Looney Toons and Merrie Melodies) over and over. Wise enough to know the Road Runner would be saved and escape Wile E. and all his Acme products and extreme efforts to ensnare the Road Runner, yet I continued to watch.
Could the Road Runner represent Believers and the Wile E. Coyote, Satan? We, as Christians, know that Satan has been given some rather strong power on earth. He even tried to tempt Jesus. According to Matthew, Mark and Luke, while Jesus fasted in the desert, Jesus was tempted by Satan. Satan did not win; he was defeated. Do you ever feel like Satan is chasing you, tempting you, throwing up roadblocks on your life’s journey? Wile E. Coyote was, in every cartoon episode, plotting, scheming, tempting and using all his power to snare the Road Runner.
As Believers, we have the power of Christ within us, (Philippians 4:13 tells us, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”) We have the strength to combat and conquer all of Satan’s efforts to attack us, to side track us, to throw up road blocks or create stumbling sections on our life’s path. God loves us unconditionally and because of Christ’s strength, available to us His believers, no “Acme” products of Satan’s making or temptations or sly manipulating will win.
Be more like the Road Runner and as a Believer, race to study God’s Holy Word, Seek Him, dart into prayer time often. Slide into the armor of His strength to wear in your daily battles with the wily, sneaky, thief who roams our world seeking to destroy you and your life. Beep Beep! Be strong in the Lord!
