Dangling Participle

Junior High, or for some districts, Middle School was the BEST time for me.  I loved school always, but those junior high years were exciting.  I learned how to diagram sentences!  Thrilling!  There were dances, boys (lol), junior varsity football games, changing classes and…. diagramming sentences.  I was Queen of the Dangling Participle.  Seriously, my 8th grade teacher had us grouped in teams and we would race to the board to diagram sentences.  Find the subject, the verb, the conjunctions, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives AND dangling participles (etc.).  I was so fast and loved the thrill of each diagram I created.  (post note:  I grew up to become a teacher of math, go figure!).

Action verbs tell you what the subject of the sentences is doing mentally or physically.  Now, if we apply ACTION to our faith the results are empowering and perhaps thrilling. FAITH is an action verb. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Hebrews 11: 1

Hoping, believing, trusting, having faith requires action on our part. The twelve disciples were blessed to walk the earth with Jesus, to partake of meals with Him.  They learned through close observation and being eager students of the Master Teacher.  We don’t have the physical privilege of walking with our Lord, but we can use our action verbs of FAITH, HOPE and TRUST in God and see them transform our daily lives.

Be strong, be robust, be diligent on your faith journey through this life. Allow your actions to strengthen your continued learning. Don’t become a dangling participle (an adjective that modifies a noun that isn’t there), but rather be an advocate for more action in your resolve to be a champion proclaiming God’s unconditional love for us.
