In Anxious Times

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious!   Ok, that’s easier said than done!   Our country is in turmoil;  does that make me anxious, you bet.   My grandchildren attend schools where the corona virus seems to visit at will;  anxious for them, absolutely.   Then there are the simple day to day things.  Anxiety about the day’s medical test, what will the diagnosis be?  Anxiety about going out to church, meetings or shopping;  will everyone wear a mask?  These are anxious times.  Don’t know about you, but I find my stress level running a little high lately.

We would like control over many situations.  God has not given us that option.  He has control.  Still we find ourselves nervous and worrying.   (Or is it just me?}   I don’t think God is telling me never to worry, for in this human flesh that would be impossible.  He did say that when I worry, turn it over to Him!  Talk to Him.  Let Him know the things that worry me, yes the little things as well as the things that scare me and shake me to my core.  Don’t hold on to those worries,  give them to God with thanksgiving!  Turn them over to God, and never pick them up again.

If we can give our worries over to God in prayer, He in His unconditional love will give us peace.  Now that’s a promise worth seeking.
