Epiphany

Ah, today is the 12th day of Christmas, better known as the celebration of Epiphany.  It’s a strange word, especially to those not familiar with a liturgical calendar.   In everyday usage, having an epiphany means a sudden moment of insight.  An “Aha” moment.

So it was for the wisemen who approached from the east, following the star to locate the Christ child.   They arrived and at that moment Jesus Christ was revealed to them.   The divine was made manifest.  There’s another churchy word that simply means being made readily perceived and seen.   On this day we commemorate God’s revelation of the divine Jesus Christ, not just to the shepherds but to the Gentiles, to the world.

Let it be so for us as well.   Before the last of Christmas is packed away, let’s take time to bow down to worship the Christ Child, bow down in awe of the wondrous love that came to us  with his birth.  The wisemen brought their best gifts to him,  will we offer him our best as well?

The rendition of We Three Kings which follows offers a different arrangement of this well known carol with its message to ALL of the world.
