This devotion marks five years that I have been writing for this blog. Where do I get the ideas from? Some are compelled by the date. For example, I always write about Maundy Thursday, Ascension Day and Thanksgiving because those are always Thursdays. I write about any people being commemorated on one of my dates. I do that because of something that happened when I was 15. I taught a Sunday School class a new curriculum that included Great Christians. I learned about Christians I had never heard of before. That very much influenced my own life. I learn a lot from the example of other people, so I feel it important to share what I discover about our many forebearers in the faith.
Many of the devotions are just things that pop into my head. I read something or run into a situation, and there’s an idea. I write, but I am not always sure what exactly the devotion will be about until I have finished it.
It might be interesting to write your own devotion even if it isn’t for this blog. Writing your own ideas can be a helpful spiritual practice. I know when I write, the message is as much for me as it might be for any reader.
I am grateful to Pr. Ed for starting this blog and to Pr. Art and the other authors for continuing it. I’m especially thankful to Judy Spillane for managing and editing the blog. Blessing to you readers for giving me a reason to do something useful in retirement.
Read Proverbs 20:27 and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally.
