Those who know me might think that today I would blog about my beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl. The first team to win it in their home stadium! Oldest head coach to win. Oldest quarterback to win, that being Tom Brady, the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).
But I’m not going to do that…
Remember merry-go-rounds? Made of what today would be considered “hazmat” (hazardous material), like steel. To get that sucker moving you had to use a lot of leg energy. It might get you three circuits to feel any momentum. Then you no longer needed to push and struggle. You were free to just ride and let your head spin. We need that same kind of momentum in our lives, in churches. Sometimes we circle ‘round the same issues without getting any momentum. Or we “circle the wagons” and form an encampment, a barrier. Once momentum is achieved, the next step is nurturing. Whether it’s your own personal plan or goal or that of a group or organization, you need this merry-go-round.
A college teacher used the phrase “chunk it” when it came to problem solving. When the issue or task looks gargantuan, break it up into manageable pieces. For the Tampa Buccaneers (sorry, couldn’t help it), Tom Brady and Ron Gronkowski were the final pieces in solving the problem of fifteen seasons of ineptitude. It paid off huge yesterday, as they paired for two touchdowns. I know it’s just a game, but the same principles, the same approach, can apply to us and our working with others. It may take a while and a lot of work, but it gets easier over time. Life is what we make it, even if it seems like a merry-go-round. Troubles become manageable, even go away, when we trust in the one who loves us unconditionally. We can win the game and achieve our goals. Our victory over sin and death is assured by the cross of Jesus.
