Come Holy Ghost

Do you remember when the Holy Spirit was referred to as the Holy Ghost?  I do.  I also remember and continue to use a hymn that we often sang during the Pentecostal season.  But, really, it doesn’t need to be confined to that liturgical time of the year.

In fact, for me, it is a daily prayer for help and guidance.  Like this week, I had a full plate of activities and responsibilities.  I won’t list them; that makes me sound like a martyr and I’m not.  I made the choice to take on these tasks, all by myself (maybe I should have prayed before I said yes- LOL!)

Anyway, I sang and said these words all week:  Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest.  And in my heart, take up thy rest.  Come with Thy grace and heavenly aid, to fill the heart which Thou hast made.  To fill the heart which Thou hast made.”  Louis Lambillotte, SJ

Have you ever felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in your heart?  It is a warm and comforting feeling.  Sometimes, it is a shiver.  Sometimes, just a soft whisper.  It tells me to let go of the worry and anxiety and put one foot in front of the other.  It doesn’t mean that I can drift along and do nothing.  It gives me the knowledge that all will be well, if I keep the task in perspective and placed in the hands of God.

I have spent many years driving myself nuts with worry about this or that.  The relief that comes from this trust in the goodness of the Lord and guidance of the Holy Spirit is just plain unexplainable.  It’s a mystery and I am content to accept that this is something that I will not understand while in this world.

This is God’s unconditional love in action.  And… God loves you unconditionally.  Heed His call.
