Valentine’s Day is here. This day, like Mother’s Day tends to be a big commercial boon for card companies, florists, candy manufacturers and the list goes on. It is traditionally a Christian (for St. Valentine) and Roman tradition celebrating love. Engagements are made on Valentine’s Day and weddings performed with hearts, red flowers and oozing with love themes. How nice to have a day to let your significant other know they are loved! Children create valentines to deliver to their classmates and return home with a bag of valentine cards and goodies from their peers. The heart shape is easy to draw, color and even to cut out for their tiny hands and fingers. What a great occasion!
Isn’t it beyond human understanding the breadth and depth of God’s love for us? Can you fathom the idea of sacrificing your child to save, redeem and confirm your love for all? God gave us the holy, magnificent gift of His Son. Not a card that we might lose, or chocolates that we might binge on, or flowers that would wilt, but His Son, that we might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
Incredible gift! Awesome love! Most certainly a treasure that can stay forever in your heart and soul. You are a child of God and He delights in giving you gifts, not just on Valentine’s Day, but loved filled gifts daily. His greatest gift was Jesus. Embrace Him. Give thanks and share His love as you send a card, buy the chocolates and deliver the flowers and remember His love will last forever.
