Just left the dentist’s office, not my most favorite place to visit, but it was minor and quick; however, it still included, “open wide.”
Psalm 89 is attributed to Ethan the Ezrahite and begins:
“Your love, God, is my song, and I’ll sing it! I’m forever telling everyone how faithful you are.
I’ll never quit telling the story of your love—
how you built the cosmos and guaranteed everything in it.”
I like the line…” I’m forever telling everyone how faithful you are.” Isn’t it interesting that it does not suggest we watch and listen to our Pastors, Priests, Rabbis or other clergy for them to tell everyone about God’s faithfulness? No, as you read and study God’s Holy Word, the implication is quite clear. The directive at the dentist’s office is for ME to open my mouth, so is the Psalm giving a directive. God’s love should be your song, sing it! Forever tell others how faithful God is, never quit telling the story.
Who in this world should you tell? Does this suggest you set out on a mission journey? Must a street corner become your new podium for declaring your proclamations? Not that those aren’t good suggestions but they are not necessary. Do not only rely on your clergy with the weak thought that this is THEIR job. The Psalmist is speaking to YOU. Tell your children. Tell your spouse. Tell your co-workers. At lunch with friends, share God’s love. God blesses you each day and you can bless others by telling them of His connections to YOU.
With the World Wide Web, our smartphones, the internet all at our fingertips, we can reach out to so many sharing and never tire of telling about God’s love. OPEN WIDE your heart and your mouth and make known God’s faithfulness.
Have you ever asked God to guide you safely through traffic? Did He? Share that. Have you asked for strength to endure pain? Was strength provided? Share that. God is love. God loves you unconditionally and is faithful always. Share that….open wide!
