If you are not familiar with the Broadway play or movie, Godspell, find it on You Tube and watch it. You will probably be smiling and humming along to the wonderful songs including in this version of the Gospel according to Matthew.
My friend, from high school, John-Michael Tebelak, wrote Godspell as his master thesis at Carnegie-Mellon University. He was a playwright and director who wrote and staged this musical. It opened off-Broadway, then on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theater and then became a movie. What a gifted, talented young man! He had a fatal heart attack at age 36. I was just listening to a song from the play, Prepare Ye. Again, watch this on You Tube. You cannot help but be lifted up spiritually, knowing our Lord is coming.
Many picture in their minds, the believers lining the roads, preparing the way for Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Palms lining the pathway, hosannas being shouted, fronds waved in celebration. Certainly, a joyful celebration filled with anticipation. The song, Prepare Ye, from Godspell, fills you with that celebratory joy of anticipation.
Watching my lilies burst through the ground, I anticipate their majestic blooms. Yes, spring is coming! Passover will be celebrated by our Jewish friends, a holy time of thankfulness and remembrance of their journey through the wilderness, anticipating the Promised Land. Palm Sunday worship will be joyous as we anticipate Easter. Yes, Jesus will be betrayed, and crucified for us, dying for us and our sins, so with eager anticipation we may look forward to His resurrection. He loves us unconditionally.
Prepare ye the Way! Anticipate your Savior!
