The pandemic of 2020 is not the first pandemic in the world’s history nor will it be the last. It also is not the worst situation to befall humankind, but it is affecting “us”, so it is prominent in our minds.
Through social media and from friends, Psalm 91 keeps popping up as a recommendation for a source of words of wisdom and strength. We know there are certainly many versions of the Bible and translations in many languages. Lately I have been enjoying reading The Message version. Written/translated by Eugene Peterson, in his words, According to the Introduction to the New Testament of The Message, its “contemporary idiom keeps the language of the Message (Bible) current and fresh and understandable”. Peterson notes that in the course of the project, he realized this was exactly what he had been doing in his thirty-five years as a pastor, “always looking for an English way to make the biblical text relevant to the conditions of the people”.
Psalm 91 addresses evil, deadly hazards, disease, angels, God’s strength to keep you safe and so much more. It is worth not only reading this in God’s Holy Word, but perhaps memorizing it. Study this psalm from any translation and you will not only be assured God loves you unconditionally, but you will gain knowledge of His power and strength.
“…harm cannot get through the door…angels stand guard over you…if only you get to know and trust Me, I will give you the best care…”
Powerful. Find a source of the Bible that reads well for you and rediscover/discover Psalm 91 and the lesson that God is our refuge! He will hold on to you for your life!
