Do these words have you picturing two young lovers? Do they bring back memories of those early days, when love was young? Perhaps you’re fortunate enough to find these words even more meaningful after spending a lifetime with the one you love.
But, not to disappoint, my intention does not focus on any of the above. I’m thinking instead about our adoration of our Lord. Perhaps lifting our heads and hands in a genuine Amen to Jesus. Matt Brouwer has written the hymn, “Father, I Adore You.” The text is simple as the stanzas move from “Father I Adore You,” to “Spirit I Adore You,” and then “Jesus I Adore You.”
It’s the second line of each verse that caught my attention. “I lay my life before you.” Such a fitting response. Because I adore you, I lay my life before you; not just this moment of adoration, or an hour of praise, but my life! That’s all that I am and all that I have. That’s commitment! (It does have certain parallels with the marriage vows, doesn’t it.)
Together, let’s lay our lives before the Lord who loves us unconditionally.
