Are you in pain?

I hope you’re not in pain today, yet I know many of you are.  It may be a debilitating physical pain that makes your days long and discouraging.  It may be a mental or emotional pain that takes you from helplessness to hopelessness.

When those around you just “don’t understand,” there is one who does understand your struggle.  Jesus Christ our Lord lived a full human life.   He suffered hunger and hurt.  He suffered brutal physical pain.  He was whipped, he was pierced, thorns were placed on his head.   He hung from a cross, forsaken.  “He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.”

Jesus hears our cries of pain, he understands, he’s been there.

In the words of the Apostle Paul, “Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away.  But his answer was ‘My grace is all you need, for my power is strongest when you are weak.’ “  2 Corinthians 21:8-9.

Feeling the presence of God in your life is no panacea for relieving pain.   But while the pain lingers, you know you are not alone.   Your Lord Jesus walks with you, his hand in yours, surrounding you with his unconditional love.  His strength is made perfect in your weakness.
