This is the time of the year when I think about the abundant bounty that God gives us. I have referred to God as the Constant Gardener. I think that is an apt description of all that He does for us.
We have just completed our annual trip north by car. This is an opportunity for me to see in real time the ever-changing crops along the roadside and witness the beautiful flowers that make our world so pleasant. I have always been fascinated by the process of growth. Growth is truly miraculous.
Think about it for a minute. We take a tiny, dried and wrinkled seed, put it into a medium, water it and -voila! within days, a living plant springs from that seed. We are given all that we need in the form of tiny dried-up seeds.
And what about photosynthesis – another miracle that keeps us alive on this planet? Plants take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produce oxygen for us. We cannot live without Oxygen! There are so many miracles to ooh and aw about in this world.
When I refer to God as a gardener, I mean that not only does God provide for the necessary items to live. He also prunes, weeds, fertilizes and cares for us. He wants the best for us in all that we do. And like plant life, our lives will experience drought, storm damage and careless human error. However, the loving gardener is always there – always.
Once again this year, my gardener friend, Jeanne, came out to our cottage and planted some flowers and herbs. We must have some basil in order to cook in my house. What a welcoming surprise to find these little plants growing strong in our yard. I have some work to do with the other plants because it looks like it was a tough winter. I will do it with God’s guidance and direction.
I trust that with God watching out for me and my plants, we will do well. God loves me, you and the plants-unconditionally!
Terri
