Grace and Mercy

There was a time in my life when I could multi-task with the best of them.  It was a necessary skill for me as it was for most of you when I was working full time, raising a family, volunteering at church and in my community and running a household. I could do a load of laundry, fix dinner, help with homework, fold a load of clothes and bake cupcakes for a bake sale all at the same time.  Sadly, that ship has sailed and I’m down to maybe handling two things at a time on a good day.  I have jokingly said to my husband, “I can only do maybe two things at once. I used to be able to do six”.

The same holds true when I am looking for a grocery item on a shelf.  I can’t shop for numerous items at a time anymore, perusing the aisles like I did in the past.  I have to find the one item I am searching for, place that in my cart and move on to the next item.  If I get side-tracked, I often forget what I was looking for and come home without it.

Like many of you, I forget why I go into a room. I have to return to where I came from (if I can remember where that is) to hopefully trigger my mind to what I’m looking for.  So far, that method is still working for me.

I giggled when I first saw the saying, “I thought it would take longer to get old”.  It is so true.  Time just flies by. While I am not “old” yet, (you know “old” is always older than you are no matter your age) it is getting closer every day and I am feeling the effects on many different levels.  This gradual change in my memory is disconcerting to me and makes me wonder what the future will bring, but I like all of you, carry on and trust that the Lord will carry me.

There is One thing in my life that never changes however and for that I am thankful.  I can always count on and remember that God loves me and everyone else unconditionally no matter how forgetful we become.  Through his grace, He gives us good things we don’t deserve and shows us mercy when He spares us from bad things we do deserve.  We can never run out of reasons to thank Him.  Even if we can’t remember everything we could in the past, we do know God is Good All the Time and that is a constant as things around us change daily. We can remember we are blessed by both his generous grace and mercy and His promise of eternal life. What an awesome God we have!
