Do you have a favorite story to tell? Perhaps it’s a story where Jesus changed your life, where he changed you and showed how He loves you. As we remember, we are reminded of the blessings our Lord has given us. Once again we can thank and praise him for his goodness to us.
I could tell the story of new parents with a three year old son who was very sick. Doctors didn’t seem to have an answer for us. Finally, one evening we rushed him to the emergency room – he needed help! As we sat in the waiting room, the surgeon who would operate came out to speak to us. His message was that our child had about a 50/50 chance of surviving. We were numb. We couldn’t talk. We couldn’t cry. We couldn’t pray. But in our stunned silence, the Holy Spirit was with us. Our son did survive and grow. God’s rich blessing had reminded us and continues to remind us that our son is a gift from God. I love to tell the story.
Jesus has changed so many lives. In the gospel of John we read about the “Woman at the Well.” She was ashamed of her scandalous past, so she grabbed her jug and headed to the well at noon, when no one would be there. But Jesus was there, and he asked her for a drink. She listened. This had to be the Messiah! And what did she do? She dropped her jug and ran back to her village. She loved to tell the story!
Then there was the howling wild man possessed by demons, who was chained in a cave by townspeople for his own protection and theirs. Then one day he met Jesus. Jesus sent those evil spirits into a herd of pigs who went running down the hillside and into the lake. The man was a new person, free and calm. And what did he do? He headed off to town to proclaim the great things Jesus had done. He loved to tell the story.
God’s unconditional love for us is the most marvelous of all stories. The story of Jesus and his love isn’t just in the pages of our Bibles, it’s also in your life and mine. Share your story.
