The Crows of Irish Cove

You may have noticed a trend in my blogs, if you are a regular reader.  Over the last few weeks, I have been enjoying the beauty of the beasts that live around our little cottage here on Lake Champlain.  The wonders of a magnificent Creator God are all around us in our world.

Today, I am thinking about the crows that wake me up in the morning.  Loud, noisy, big black birds.  What do they do at 5:30AM?   They yak back and forth planning their day and annoying me greatly.  I have been known to go out into the yard and yell back at them to get them to move down the beach.

I have a joke about black birds that I have repeatedly told to one friend (and she gently reminds me that she told me that joke).  Do you wonder why crows are able to avoid being hit by cars when they are working (i.e. eating) in the road?  Well, their buddies are in the trees yelling, “Car! Car! Car!”  It’s true!

Well, we have a buddy also.  One that is often depicted as a bird.  He is not in the trees, but in our hearts and surrounding us with love and protection.  The Holy Spirit acts as that warning system when we find ourselves lost in the wilderness of tough decisions and bad judgements.  We must then decide to listen to the gentle voice that suggests a different direction for our actions.

He doesn’t always yell “Car!”  But He does spur us to get out of the way of danger.  It is up to us to listen.  Our God loves us unconditionally and surrounds us with that love all the time.
