Strength and Humility

We learn so much from Jesus the person. He was a strong leader, yet a humble servant. His behavior crossed the whole spectrum of humanity, from overturning merchant’s tables to washing disciple’s feet. He was never weak, even when submitting to the disgrace and shame of a trial, scourging, and crucifixion. In fact, his last two days were when he was the strongest, willingly enduring the torture and abuse for our sakes. In Matthew 11:29 he describes himself as humble and gentle in heart. It takes us a long time to see that strength and humility are not off-putting but compatible. Humility is strength under control. God gives us attributes and strengths which we use for His purpose alone. We give Him the glory, but that includes what He does through us. In that vein, it is not immodest to accept compliments and praise. These are transactions between the giver and receiver, and those both parties are honored and respected.

God works new things in us, expanding our comfort zones. God wants to push us forward and out. We will not grow, His kingdom will not grow, if we don’t do this. Permit God to change scariness into excitement! Adrenaline rush, pulse quickening exhilaration! No perceived weakness is too big for God to overcome. It does take a lot of prayer, work, and practice. But the results will be well worth it. Where we are vulnerable, God is powerful. We don’t have to settle for weakness or status quo.

Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord jesus Christ. Therefore, sisters and brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor for the Lord is not in vain.   (I Corinthians 15:57-58)

Dear blog reader, you are stronger than you give yourself – more importantly, God – credit for. You are loved for being humble and recognizing how precious and needed the unconditional love of God is. Rejoice in this Good News!
