As I write this in early August, it has been exceptionally rainy. The rain gauge overflows and the lawn is as green as it gets. Overcast skies have meant than even in August I can go out for a morning walk. (Can you guess I’m not a lover of heat and humidity?) All these showers and rainstorms are a blessing from God; the earth is replenished. Even my flowers are blooming; they haven’t succumbed to the scorching heat.
In the Bible the falling of rain upon us was used symbolically to illustrate God’s teachings. “Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.” Deuteronomy 32:2 Can we picture ourselves soaking in God’s teachings and being refreshed by His love?
This treasured verse begins the Song of Moses. He was soon to die and the Lord called him to write down this song and teach it to the people of Israel. That same day Moses wrote it down and recited the entire song while all the people of Israel listened. (Deuteronomy, chapter 32)
God’s unconditional love flows freely to us. His Words are written for us to read, until they permeate every bit of our being. Oh, sometimes we seem to run away from the shower, to hide within ourselves. God is so Good! Can we open ourselves freely to receive His shower of blessings?
