Celebrate

Today is a happy day!  Today is a day to rejoice!  Today is a day to celebrate!

Well, the weather is cloudy and cool.  The house needs to be cleaned.  The laundry needs to be done.  However, all those things do not matter because…

Today is our 54th Wedding Anniversary!  We are celebrating!  Taking the day off and treating ourselves to a delicious dinner at a lovely restaurant on beautiful Lake Champlain.

I don’t think that we give anniversaries the status that they deserve.  The decision to commit to a loving relationship with one person is significant.  Anniversaries of any length deserve a big “Way to Go!”

In my case, I remember the joy and pride that I felt when both of my grandparents, my parents and in-laws reached that 50-year milestone.  I was old enough to realize that there were difficult times in their lives.  These events were unusual for that time.  Now, long term marriages are even more uncommon.

I am proud of the fact that Rich and I have made it to 54 years.  We have had mountain top experiences, deep valley traumas and times of complete despair.  Although I am proud of this accomplishment, I acknowledge that we did not do this alone.  A loving, understanding and helpful God has been with us every step of the way.  Thank you, dear Lord!

Marriage is hard work.  As happens with hard work, the rewards can be stunning.  Add in the feeling of being cherished by a God who loves us unconditionally and the celebration rises to new heights.  Celebrate your marriage-whatever the length- and see God smile.

Bravo Terri and congratulations to both of you. Yes, marriage is hard work and a lot of marriages do not stand the test of time, even the wealthy and powerful are not exempt. You must have been a child bride to be married 54 years.!! (wish I had a smiley face)
