Out of the Mouths of Children

The other day I had occasion to sit in a hospital waiting room.   The walls were decorated with small colorful tiles that had been painted by children who were patients.   That in itself was enough to attract my attention.  My eyes roamed over the paintings of smiling suns, rainbows, and flowers.   Then I spotted a tile with quite a few words, all painted in a child’s hand. (well, maybe some help from mom) I had to get closer to see this one.  The message, “Faith gives us the courage to face uncertainties in the future.”   Wow.   That really spoke to me.

The future is always uncertain, but in these troubled times that uncertainty seems to be multiplied many times.  All this uncertainty is stressful.   Personally, I find fear and anxiety creeping in far more often than courage.   But as the child said, “Faith gives us the courage.”    Courage is a gift, a gift we need, a gift I need to ask for more often.

The Psalmist knew of our need.   “Be strong and let your heart take courage all you who hope in the Lord.”  Psalm 31:24

I will never know the child who painted that tile.  I pray that their health was restored.  But God used the hands of a child to speak to me today.   Thank you, Lord.   I needed that.

May His unconditional love give you courage to face the uncertainties ahead in your life.
