Seeing the word in the title, what does that bring to mind? Skipping a meal? Skipping rope, or skipping (the sort of hop)? Skipping school? Skipping stones across a pond? Interestingly, when I thought of this, I realized I had tried all of the above scenarios (truthfully, I only skipped one class period in high school, not an entire day). I don’t believe I ever was able to skip stones, mine would hop across the stream or pond with maybe two skips, if I was lucky.
I alone cannot change the world,
but I can cast a stone across the waters
to create many ripples.
~Mother Teresa
What a wonderful quote from Mother Teresa! Even though my stone skipping attempts may not have zipped very many times skimming the water top, the ripples continued from my efforts. The God-led changes you attempt for yourself personally, or for your family, neighborhood, church, the world, will be like casting a stone; the ripples will continue.
Knowing that God loves you unconditionally, approach Him in thought and prayer when you are seeking a change. He is ready to be your Source. With prayerful effort, “skip your stone” and watch the ripples multiple. You and God make a pair that can become a multitude. “Skip out” a thought of forgiveness, kindness, prayer, watch it continue. Pay a kindness forward; the ripples are powerful to watch.
Lately, I have not physically skipped around my neighborhood, but I have “skipped a stone” of kindnesses, smiles, prayers, and more, watching God increase the “ripples” of change. We can each make a change that ripples throughout the world. What a beautiful world it can be!
