Whispering

Do you remember the whispering game called “Telephone?” Usually a children’s game, where you form a line or circle and the first person whispers a phrase into the next person’s ear and the phrase is to be repeatedly whispered down the line or around the circle.  The humor is the end result is not exactly like the original phrase and sometimes a far stretch from the original.

stage whisper is defined as: a loud whisper uttered by an actor on stage, intended to be heard by the audience but supposedly unheard by other characters in the play. Whispering has even been related to the wind and poems written about it.

Whispering is also mentioned in the Bible. 1 Kings 19:12 – “After the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was a voice, a soft whisper.”

Whispering requires the listener to be still and quiet and in close proximity so the whisper can be heard.  I recently read in a devotional that I can whisper to God.  I love that thought!  He is so close; He can hear my whisper.  Psalm 139:1-5 (from The Message) “God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence.”

I can whisper to God.  What if I just whisper, “Jesus?”  Even though He is close enough to know my thoughts before I voice them, I have just brought myself closer to Him.  Picture Him as the next “ear” to be leaned into for a whisper (like in the game telephone).  You are bringing yourself so close to Him.  Right where He wants you to be.  Whisper, “Jesus.”  It works! He loves you unconditionally.
