A Bonus

I recently had the pleasure of sharing in a reunion of old college friends, all of us eighty or older. It’s hard to describe the joy found among twelve women whose friendship has survived more than sixty years, a lifetime of experiences and challenges.

One friend aptly described these years as “bonus years.”   Have we exceeded the national average? Have we lived longer than even we would have expected? These “over 80” years may bring their hardships, but these years are a bonus.  We can face each day as a special blessing, an opportunity to be thankful, to look for new ways to use our experience and ability for the good of others.

I share this thought with you, knowing that among our readers there are others who have also reached these “bonus years.”   And, for those of you of a “younger persuasion,” each day is still a gift from God. Together we open our eyes each morning and declare, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24.

The Lord has made this day and it is good, for He is a Lord who loves you unconditionally.
