Light a Candle

“Light a candle,
Light the dark,
Light the world,
Light a heart or two,
Light a candle for me, I’ll light a candle for you.”
(by Joel Lindsey & Wayne Haun 1/2000)

I used to sing in a large Christian choir that gave a “Great Joy” concert at Christmastime.  One of the lovely pieces that we performed was called “Light a Candle” .  Have you heard it?

As we begin Advent and approach Christmas, candles will appear in our churches. The four Advent candles all remind us to prepare the way for Jesus’ coming.
1)  The purple candle of hope.  Jesus is coming – a light shining in the darkness.
2)  The purple candle of preparation.  Reminding us to prepare our hearts to receive Jesus.
3)  The pink candle of Joy.  Joy in our hearts as we happily await the light of the world.
4)   The purple candle of Love.  God is love.  Jesus comes with unconditional love to all.  Love is the greatest gift that we can give, if we open our hearts to shine through the darkness.

The center and final candle – the white Christ candle – is lit on Christmas.  Jesus is born!  He is here among us in His glory.  The light in the darkness;  the victor over sin and death.

Prepare the way.  His is the light of the world.  Will you share the advent story?
Light a candle.
