I have to admit, the Christmas season is a challenge for me. We get so caught up in the trees, lights, shopping for gifts and celebrations. There is so much stress! Don’t get me wrong, it is wonderful to be with family and friends, to enjoy good food, and to exchange gifts.
But really, are we are missing the main event, the beginning of the story?
In December I try to imagine what it would have been like to be a shepherd just hanging out on a quiet night when suddenly the sky explodes with light and an angel appears? “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11). And then suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host praising God.
WOW! Just imagine what that would have been like! In that instant, everything changed. This one event, the birth, made everything else possible.
The birth of Christ is the most exciting beginning to the most important story of our lives. REJOICE! A most wonderous CHILD is born! Excitement is in the air.
