I read about the “celebration plate” in the Living Lutheran magazine in the last couple of years. I thought it was a nice idea, but sort of put it in the back of my head. Last summer I found the article I had tucked away and decided to act upon it. One of the decisions I have made was to give a celebration plate to every set of newlyweds I know. I think it is a simple, yet awesome way to celebrate the little and not so little special occasions in life which can bring happiness. We can never have too much happiness, especially in these somewhat trying times. The following is taken from that article.
Here is a new tradition for you to start with your family. This is the “celebration plate”. Whenever someone reaches a milestone in your family and has something to celebrate, they are given the honor of eating their meal from this special plate to commemorate their achievement. Significant things to celebrate could be birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, baptisms, confirmations, a pay raise or promotion, a graduation, a good grade, an award or a special announcement just to name a few.
Life is too short not to celebrate the good things, big and small and be thankful for all of our blessings. Through this simple tradition, you can celebrate the giftedness within each of us which is often overlooked. Every breath we take is a gift, every moment of love, tenderness and compassion is worth celebrating. Any time we can “love on” one another and show that love in even a small way is important. Celebrate each other with love and thankfulness.
In Romans 12:20 we are given these wonderful words: Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
The same can be said for honoring our Father in Heaven who shows this love in so many ways. Give thanks for his unconditional love we experience every day. Amen
