Metta

We are now a week into the new year.  If you haven’t already, it is time to think of what we want our lives to look like in 2022.   A good place to start is practicing “Metta” which is a central concept within Buddhism.  It simply means an attitude of friendliness and benevolence to others.  I don’t think anyone could disagree with this practice, and its value to others is extraordinary.

People who foster this loving kindness are usually happier within themselves and have a peaceful and giving soul.  The advantages of having Metta as your guiding foundation hold many benefits for you personally as well as those around you.  You will sleep better, be healthier, have fewer if any enemies and have better relationships with less chance of hurting or being hurt by others.  Others will be blessed by the joy and love you extend.

Metta is after all the same Christian message we have been given from our Lord.  In 1 John 4:7 we read these words.  Dear Friends, Let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

God shows his unconditional love to us every day.  We would do well to emulate the love we receive.

“May all be safe from harm; May all be happy and peaceful; May all be strong and healthy; May all be free from suffering.”  A Simple Metta Prayer
