Just A Swingin’

Swing low, sweet chariot…(composed by Wallis Willis a Choctaw Freedman, African American spiritual)

I’m out here on the front porch, just a swingin’…(country song and lyrics by John Anderson)

…and of course, Bing Crosby’s, Would You Like to Swing on a Star.

Oh, how I love to swing!  I grew up with a front porch swing that I would spend hours on, just watching cars go by, or birds flitting through the trees, or occasionally hear an apple drop from our large apple tree. Moving from Ohio to Florida many years ago and missing the “swinging sensation,” I am again swingin’ on the front porch. The swinging was simply beautiful today.  The sun was shining, the breeze was pleasantly cooler than past days and I felt God’s presence.  Watching little geckos run over the rocks, and gazing at the tree leaves folding forward and back as the breeze caressed them, I felt God with me.  I was swinging gently and knew that I knew, God loved me unconditionally.

Time that you allow yourself to be alone and still may open your heart to knowing God is always with you.  Sometimes the busy, hectic days do not lend themselves to quiet times when He can be so personally felt.

You do not have to go for a walk.  You do not have to be swinging on your front porch, but being still wherever, whenever may just give you that sneak peek into knowing Him.  Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.

There are lasting benefits to times of quiet stillness and for me lasting benefits each time I quiet myself for “swing time.”  God loves me and swings with me always.
