A Lone Voice

Did you ever feel like a lone voice in the wilderness?   Did you ever have a strong opinion about the way to proceed, only to discover no one around you agrees?  Did you ever express your feelings to your family or friends and find they really didn’t understand?  It’s a lonely feeling, isn’t it.

If you have, you’re apparently in good company.  John 1:23 tells us that the voice of John the Baptist was a “lone voice in the wilderness.”   He proclaimed the coming of the Messiah, but he was the first prophet in 400 years.  His lifestyle was unusually rugged, his camel’s hair clothing strange, his message different.  Daily he faced doubters who didn’t share his enthusiasm for the coming Messiah.   He was just one voice, but he was one of the most significant figures in the Bible.   That one voice put down the self-righteous and called the people to repentance. His message was simple: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”   He focused on the mission God had given him.

You have just one voice, as do I.  We too have been called to share the truth of Jesus with others.  It’s unlikely that we’ll preach with the fervor and fearlessness of John the Baptist, but we can follow his example of faithful obedience.  Our heavenly Father in his unconditional love has given us each a voice.  He has given us each a calling. We can share his love in our own unique circumstances.  Think of John and remember one voice can make a difference.

Hope you enjoy the Cherubim Singers as they sing about giving ourselves to Jesus.
