Common Error

Have you ever heard someone talking about a change in their life and they expressed it by saying, “I made a 360change?” This is a common error and heard often, for instance a friend just told me they had quit smoking and it was a 360change for life.

As a math teacher, it was fun to discover circles in Geometry. Circles have a total of 360.  Moving a quarter turn is a 90turn and half way around the circle is 180. The point of this explanation is to make the complete opposite change in your life, your change would represent 180not 360.  A 360 change would bring you right back to where you started.

The word repent means to “turn around or away from.”  When we are led to believe that changes must be made in our life and we must repent from our sins; we are to turn around, turn away from them.  This is not a 360change, leading us right back where we started, but instead a 180change which in fact, turns us the farthest from our sins.  Perhaps think of repentance as turning towards God and away from whatever separates you from Him.

Real repentance or remorse, generates an inner change of heart producing new actions.  May changes you make within your “circle of life,” turn you towards our heavenly Father, who loves you unconditionally.  Repent.  Be forgiven.  You are loved.
