Many Hands Make Light Work

This last week I read a friend’s post on Facebook that inspired me to write this blog.  My friend recently vacationed in Mexico and while there, went deep sea fishing.  There was a picture of a beaming Diane holding a 180-pound marlin she had landed.  While she was very proud of the catch, her first comment was how grateful she was for all the help she had during the 40-minute battle it took to reel in her fish.  She thanked her husband, her friend and the deck hand of the charter boat for their assistance and being there for her to lighten the load so she could finish this task.  She also talked about how important community was in accomplishing this feat.

This idea of supporting and helping each other to lighten the load and complete tasks has been a hot topic at Joy…the need for more people to step forward to help further the work of the church.  “Many hands make light work” is an assertion that holds a great deal of truth. It takes a community of people working together to realize the results we would like to achieve. The simple, yet true meaning of this idea is to help each other, come together as a community and make a positive difference.

This statement by Chris Brogan certainly says it all. “When the people who support and are a part of your community, the community you have the pleasure and power and opportunity to serve, that’s where all the best business happens”.

These words from Deuteronomy 15:11 should be our guide. You shall surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

Let us work together to serve our church, our community and the larger world to support others in their battles.  Our Lord provides us with unconditional love to sustain us in our lives.  May we emulate Him in our daily lives and love our neighbors through our actions. Thanks be to God.
