Any one who knows me, knows I am not fearless and most definitely not a big risk taker. Having put that disclaimer from pen to paper, who was that who celebrated her half century birthday by jumping into the basket of a hot air balloon? Oh yes, that was me! This adventure was on my “bucket list,” and I took God right along with me. It was beyond my expectations and I was awed by the gorgeous sunrise, the majesty of the mountains, the racing jack rabbits as we skimmed cactus tops and fear was not present. From The Message, Psalm 46: 1-2 “God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him. We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom, courageous in a sea storm and earthquake,
Before the rush and roar of oceans, the tremors that shift mountains.”
Twenty years later, another “bucket list” adventure was to zip line. As I always have my God living within me, He was along for this endeavor also. Nine different zip lines were completed, two rope bridges crossed and rappelling to finish the course. Hanging on tightly as I glided through trees, over lakes, sliding up the line and down the line, I was grinning ear to ear. God knew I really needed Him to take the fear from my mind and let me enjoy His world from a different altitude. Majestic! His rays of joy had reached inside the hot air balloon basket and were sliding along the zip line with me.
Clinging to our Lord is just what He wants from us. You do not have to be zipping through a bucket list. You can cling and hang on to Him while you grocery shop. Have you found yourself clinging to your Heavenly Father, as you navigate traffic? Our God loves us unconditionally and wants to be our refuge and strength. Lean on Him. Trust. Cling. Rely.
