On a rainy day not so long ago, I decided to clean out my kitchen cabinets. I started on those lower cabinets, you know the ones, filled with plastic containers in many sizes, an assortment of plastic covers, casserole dishes some with covers some without, baking pans. The orderly way they were once arranged seemed to have disintegrated. So many containers; do I really use or need all of these? Do these covers really fit anything? The image of this container chaos was still in my head when I read the following verse.
“We can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!” Romans 5:5b (The Message, The Bible in Contemporary Language)
Wow! I thought my muddle of containers was pretty extensive. Now if I collect from my neighbors, town, state, country, and just keep going from kitchen to kitchen – I still couldn’t round up enough to hold God’s blessings! His bounty of blessings is more than we could ever contain, poured freely and generously for us. OK, I get the point. As Paul says earlier in that passage, “We’re never left feeling shortchanged.”
Praise be to God for his abundant and unconditional outpouring of love for me and for you.
Judy
