Luke 19:41, “He came closer to the city, and when he saw it, he wept over it.” It was the day of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. But Jesus saw more than palm branches ahead, he saw hatred and suffering and death. Looking ahead at the city he wept saying, “If you only knew today what is needed for peace!” He wept for the city that would betray him.
Jesus is watching over us. He sees our world torn by hatred and war. He sees hardened hearts and suffering souls. Oh, how he must weep for his children.
We too weep when we look at the plight of those suffering the ravages of war at this very time. We pray, we pray hard for those who endure this agony. We help, if we can, to support organizations that are able to provide relief. And we pray for the leaders of the world who bring this suffering upon innocent lives.
As each day begins anew, we ask God to strengthen us with his unconditional love, to come to us with comfort and to bring us peace. The song which follows expresses this beautifully.
I hope it brings peace to you today.
