As we move through Lent, I often think of how Jesus endured those 40 days in the wilderness that were full of one hardship after another and temptations galore. It was beyond difficult and exhausting, yet Jesus overcame all of the trials set before him and went on to become the Savior of our world.
Robert Lewis Stephenson penned these words and whether we agree with them or not, they speak to our human nature.
Anyone can carry his burden, however heavy, until nightfall. Anyone can do his work, however hard, for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, until the sun goes down. And this is all that life is really about.
Some tasks/trials loom in front of us and we think we will never get through them, yet we do. We take one hour at a time, one day at a time and day by day we bite off small pieces, take baby steps and whittle away at whatever the undertaking presents to us. As the days wear on, we wonder if we can go on, but we do and eventually we begin seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m sure this is what Jesus thought, but He knew of His Father’s unconditional love for Him then, just as we do now. He knew with God’s help, all things were possible. Jesus lived this in his journey through the wilderness and we live it in our daily lives. Thanks be to God for His unconditional love.
