Listen to God

Many times we pray for help, but when it doesn’t come in the way we want it to or think it should, we do not pay attention to the response.  Here is a little story that demonstrates this very well.  I’m sure some of you have read it before.

There is an old joke about a man needing to be rescued from a flood and praying for deliverance while up on the roof of a house.  He turns away one rescuer after another, first turning away two boats, and then a helicopter, saying that he has faith that God will rescue him.  The man is finally swept away by the rising waters and drowns.  Upon entering heaven, he complains to God that he was expecting to be delivered by God from the rising waters, to which God replies “I sent two boats and a helicopter.  What more do you want?”

Sometimes, the answer to our prayer is right in front of us and we ignore it like the man in the flood.  Why do we do this?  Do we think we know better than God what we need?  Are we too full of pride to see what has been offered because it doesn’t meet what we thought we should get?  I’m sure the answers are varied depending on the person and situation.

In John 14:13-14 we read these words. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

These words are God’s promise and another sign of his unconditional love for us. We are so very blessed with all He does.  Just be open to how He answers your prayers.  Be on the lookout and believe the way the prayers are being answered are for your own good.  Thanks be to God!
