Our Faith

Why do we believe in God?  No one currently living on Earth has ever seen Him in any form. Many do not believe what they can’t physically see. That’s stand to reason, I suppose. Things are not so great in our world much of the time.  Bad things happen to good people.  There are so many questions that have no definitive answers, especially in times of trial.  What makes us believe and have faith there is a God or a future life?

Blaise Pascal, the French mathematician, Catholic Theologian and philosopher, wrote these words in regard to Faith.

“The heart has its reasons, which reason does not know. We feel it in a thousand things. It is the heart which experiences God, and not the reason.  This, then, is faith: God felt by the heart, not by the reason.”

As Pascal tells us, we have faith in our heart, not by our intellect.  We see the beauty of creation, the wonder of our lives, the good in others around us and the gifts we have been given that we certainly do not deserve.  In matters of faith, it is always what the Bible calls the heart which rules.  There is something within our soul that contains the seeds of religion and a sense of the divine. Your intellect gives you sound advice and counsel in world matters and helps us navigate our way through this life, as it were.  But for the other-worldly, the most important things, the eternal things which we really do not and cannot know, you just have to rely on your heart.

Though we may face dark valleys and hard battles in our lives, our Father in heaven will never give up on us. The Bible is full of scriptures of God’s promises to be with us always.  We just have to have faith in our hearts this is true.

Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and courageous.  Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you.  He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Faith doesn’t always take you out of the problem, Faith takes you through the problem.  Faith doesn’t always take away the pain, Faith gives you the ability to handle the pain.  Faith doesn’t always take you out of the storm, Faith calms you in the midst of the storm.  Faith does not make things easy, Faith makes them possible.

God’s unconditional love for us through His gift of salvation and eternal life is what we will have in our futures.  Have a faith that saves, not one that is tossed around by the waves.  Keep your eyes on the One who saves. Thanks be to God!
