Trinitarian Sundays

Writing about Sabbath Days and discovering the Trinity in an Old Testament lesson made me realize next Sunday is Trinity Sunday.

Sundays were always special when I was a kid. They had the aspects of a Sabbath Day. We always had coffeecake for breakfast. We always put on our good clothes to go to church and Sunday School. We always had a big dinner at noon time. We never did yard work or washed windows or the like on Sundays. In its own way, it was a busy day even though it wasn’t a work day.

It occurred to me that Sundays were a busy day for God, also. God began the creation of the world on Sunday (Genesis 1:3-5). Jesus was resurrected on a Sunday (John 20:1). The Holy Spirit descended on the apostles on a Sunday (Acts 2:1). There is a kind of Trinitarian sound to those activities.  The Father, the Almighty, is Maker of heaven and earth. The Lord Jesus Christ, is the only Son of God who on the third day rose again. The Holy Spirit is the Lord and giver of life.  I was always taught that every Sunday was a little Easter. Now I see that every Sunday is also a celebration of the Holy Trinity, the Three-in-one and One-in-Three.

The Trinity is the way Christians experience God. The Trinity is the God who Christians worship. The Trinity is the one in whose name we Baptize. May we glorify God the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Read Matthew 28:19-20 and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally.
