Recently, my daughter-in-law Shawna posted a moving video on a social media outlet. It was a charming scene set in her backyard featuring a mother duck with her brood as they went for a morning swim. The mother enters the picture alone paddling along the shore of the pond. As she reaches a certain spot, six ducklings come scurrying out of the underbrush and line up right behind her. She then proceeds to swim along the far side of the pond with her tiny flock silently following her.
I wish that I could post the video for you to see as it brought tears of joy to my eyes. However, what moved me even more was the caption ` Shawna added: “We are so lucky to live on this beautiful planet. Let’s take better care of it and each other.”
Yes! Let’s do that! Loving the world and each other; taking care of the world and each other; guiding the world and each other are the crux of the new commandment that Christ left with us at the Last Supper. It is how they will know that we are Christians-by our love, by our love.
It may not be easy, but it is always the right thing to do. We have an awesome example to guide us- God who loves you, us, and the world unconditionally.
