Here in Ocala we are fortunate to have the World Equestrian Center and I am often there watching the performances of those handsome animals and their riders. Usually I’m looking down from the stands at the day’s event, but when I wander down to floor level to watch I am overwhelmed by the size of these handsome beasts? The riders look so small perched in their saddles, small but in control.
The horses run, trot, gallop, or jump in response to the rider’s command. The better the communication between horse and rider, the better the performance. Now I confess that I am not a “horse person,” so my knowledge here is very perfunctory. But, I see riders giving their horses a pat of encouragement after the ride. I see the care they provide: warming them up, cooling them down, taking them back to clean stables, feeding them, brushing them. I see genuine love.
In Isaiah 40:30 we read, “Those who wait for the Lord will run, and not be weary.” Ah, and who will care for us? Our Lord in his unconditional love feeds us, protects us, forgives us, encourages us, strengthens us, and gives us his peace. With such love and care, we surely can run the race he sets before us. Without him, we are overwhelmed and helpless. With him, we can run and not be weary.
